Prediction of the compressive damage response of flax-reinforced laminates using a mesoscale framework

Abstract Compressive mechanical testing was performed on continuous fiber Flax/Epoxy laminate specimens, capturing, and quantifying its evolving in-plane plasticity moduli. This non-linear behaviour simulated using a modified continuum damage mechanics-based model. The standard Mesoscale Damage Theory (MDT) of Ladeveze Le Dantec to include fiber-direction evolution constitutive equations in order capture the behavior observed Natural Fiber Composites (NFCs). model parameters were experimentally identified optimized. Validations have been laminates various orientations, as well E-Glass/Polyester data from available literature. proposed successfully predicts NFCs nonlinear compressive response.
